The Reverse Advent Calendar. (Basically just plan to donate some food before you spend your whole wad today, Small Business Saturday, and Cyber Monday! ?)
I’ve seen many people share this “reverse advent calendar” concept – The idea is that you put a can or box of food in a basket every day leading up to Christmas, then donate the box. Awesome idea!
First there was Black Friday… Then Small Business Saturday and Cyber Monday came along. Then a couple years ago, I saw someone trying to make “Giving Tuesday” a thing.
I LMAOed! Who has any money left by the time Tuesday rolls around?! (“Stop trying to making Giving Tuesday happen… It’s not going to happen!”)
So before you spend all your money this weekend, plan to set a little aside for food donations, if you can afford it. Stats say that 1 in 6 Americans don’t get enough to eat. (And we should try to remember to donate food all year, not just around the holidays. Just like small businesses need our support all year, not simply on faux shopping holidays like Small Business Saturday, hungry people are hungry all year long as well.)
And if you don’t have a penny to spare, maybe look through your old clothes, coats, etc. Chances are you have SOMETHING you could donate.
OR… Do both!!
Many of us have a LOT to be thankful for… So why not pay it forward? ??
